If you have questions, or a story about something your sheltie does/did I would love to display short articles (picts) welcomed, regardless to where you got the pet.

I recently received this email story from Cindy (Bear, DE). Although it's full of sadness, it shows how a shelties love is unconditional and kept the family together.
My Devoted Family Members...always in my Heart
I was raised with Shelties all my life. When my last Sheltie passed at 13 years old, we had a hole in our hearts. We found a breeder in Altoona who had a litter, but had just sold her last pup. She offered me a 3 year old female that had a "C Section". So if I didn't mind an adult, she was mine. I saw her pictures, fell in love and drove 2 hours meeting her 1/2 way to bring our Harleigh Girl to our home. She is forever our girl and loved so much. She was a shy girl and didn't bark for months. I am a stay at home mom and had lots of time welcoming her into our family unit. This also helped as therapy for our son w/ c.p. in a wheel chair. He is 19 and Harleigh is his sidekick, when not mine.
After a year a call came and we were offered another Sheltie that was 2. And yes... we made the drive again with Harleigh. The 2 girls may have remem-bered each other, acting like 2 peas in a pod. They have both taken to our son Dillon and actually compete for his attention. They wake him up, licking his face and follow him to the bathroom, kitchen, and even to the bus that picks him up at our driveway. Lucy will bark when Dilllon starts to wake up to let me know. They have become very protective of him. They jump in bed with him and give goodnight kisses. In the morning sometimes lick his toes to motivate movement from him. Lucy is very photogentic and will pose for a picture. They do everything together. The picture is of Lucy's 1st Christmas with us, Although Harleigh had his own bed, he couldn't resist getting in the bed with her..
When our Piper died, my oldest son wanted to get a Lab, saying it would be better for Dillon, but I had to stay faithful to the breed I knew and grew to love my whole life. Shelties are the smartest, most loyal and loving family dog we could ever want. We have a big house and big corner lot and fenced in yard with a pool. The girls are hardly ever home alone. They love rides in the car on the weekend when we go to Petsmart. Dillon holds one leash and I the other. Lucy stays right next to Dillon's wheel chair. They love walks and for some reason love puttting their sweaters on. We had our Piper for 13 years and was Dillon's best friend and companion. He was almost human. It was a great loss when he passed
.....But somehow I know he is as at peace knowing Harleigh and Lucy are taking care of Dillon now.
There was one more part I left out about our Piper..... The morning of Dillon’s appointment at Jefferson Hosp with his new Urologist (son was born with 1 kidney and other issues); because this was his first apt with this specialist that was very important after (recent ER visit), was also the morning Piper looked as though he was not going to be with us long. We could not cancel and it was a very long drive. We got home at 8:00 pm an Piper was lying on the floor lifeless. I feared the worse and ran to him grabbing a blanket nearby and scooped him up in my arms crying. I held him tight and rocked him in the kitchen chair. He was still breathing but barely. Dillon came close, not sure what was wrong. I had him to pat Piper on the head one last time. I told Piper he was the "BEST DOG IN THE WORLD" and how he was the best buddy, companion to Dillon and he would always be in our hearts. Always. I told him Dillon loves him. And I said I was sorry we weren’t there for him. In 3 minutes he was gone. He died in my arms. But what was special about him was that he held on and waited for us. We got to thank him for all the years of love and loyalty he gave us, we got to say goodbye. I believe he waited for us. What loyalty is that. Thank you for letting me share our story. We have been thinking of enlarging my family.
